SONY ERICSSON RAW SESSIONS ARTIST OF THE YEAR
VOTED
SONY ERICSSON RAW SESSIONS ARTIST OF THE YEAR
Sunday, 5th July 2009 : Lotus Media, Sony Ericsson and RTE have announced that Dublin Hip Hop & Rap artists The Infomatics have been voted Sony Ericsson Raw Sessions Artist of the Year. The Infomatics win a week’s recording in Grouse Lodge Studios, Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman mobile phones for each member of the band plus the cover of Hotpress on 16 July.
The announcement was made on last night’s final Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson television show which was recorded in The Button Factory last week and featured first class live performances from Dirty Epics, The Infomatics and R.S.A.G (Rarely Seen Above Ground).
The Infomatics are five talented Dublin MCs and musicians, who mash up hip-hop, electronica, soul, jazz and reggae, use it as a sound-bed for an Irish story and play it out live. They are the loudest voice in the revolution of Irish hip-hop. The Infomatics live experience is a raw, lyric spitting affair, crammed full of relentless energy.
Their performance credentials include numerous support slots with the best of hip-hop talent including NAS, Soul II Soul, ICE-T, The Jungle Brothers, The Cool Kids, Naughty By Nature, De La Soul, EDAN, Guestlove, Rodney P, Saul Williams (twice), Lupe Fiasco (twice) and most recently while playing at Brighton's Rising Styles Festival they shared the stage with some of the UK's finest including Blak Twang, Jehst and Skinnyman. www.myspace.com/theinfomatics
The Infomatics created two original songs as part of The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson eight-part television series. Their first song called “The Long Finger “ was recorded in less than 12 hours in Sun Studios, Temple Bar during programme 3 and their second song “Let Me Fly” was recorded in less than 18 hours in the exclusive Grouse Lodge recording studios in Co Westmeath with the help of producing duo Misk and Arveene.
Dez Ryan, Presenter & Producer of The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson said: The Raw Sessions Live final was an amazing night – Dirty Epics, RSAG and The Infomatics were fantastic. People kept asking me who I thought had taken it and I honestly couldn’t say. I knew it was going to be close. It was so difficult to choose between three incredibly talented artists. I couldn’t have picked a winner so I am glad The Raw Sessions viewers made the decision at the end of the day.”
“From the first day on the series, I felt the Infomatics had something really original going on with their music. They are definitely one of the brightest voices in Irish Hip Hop. Lotus Media, Sony Ericsson and everyone who worked on the show are grateful to all eight bands for working with us on season one. We are already looking forward to a possible season two and working with more of the best and brightest musical talent in the country”, Dez Ryan added.
Russell Keating, Marketing Manager, Sony Ericsson Ireland said: “Sony Ericsson is committed to supporting new Irish music and the Raw Sessions has been the perfect way to show our support. The Raw Sessions series has been fantastic showcase for all the artists taking part and we hope the bands involved benefit from the television exposure they have received.”
Eight very talented independent artists took part in the first series of The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson including Majella Murphy, Rarely Seen Above Ground (RSAG), Sickboy, Noise Control, Dirty Epics, Hoarsebox, Infomatics and Sweet Jane. All twelve songs which were created as part of the 8 week television series can be downloaded from www.therawsessions.ie
